Libertarian Party and Women
Quick, name the first woman in Unites States history to receive an electoral vote.
According to The Associated Press (August 16, 2000), Ms. Tonie Nathan, of Eugene, Oregon, ran in 1972 as the Libertarian Vice Presidential candidate and was the first woman in United States history to receive an electoral vote. Ms. Nathan was also the first Jewish vice presidential candidate.
The Libertarian Party is the only party that has a "founding mother"
One of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century, Ayn Rand, is revered by the majority of Libertarians. Ayn Rand made significant contributions to philosophical thought in ethics, business, and politics. Two of her most famous literary works are Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. She lived an interesting life.
The Libertarian Party has consistently supported a woman's right to her own body
We own our own bodies. No one can usurp that right. The Libertarian Party starts from the concept that ALL of us have a right to decide what to do with our own bodies.
Libertarian Party and Gay Rights
The Libertarian Party has promoted gay rights since 1972 (what took everyone else so long?)
The Libertarian Party was the first major party to endorse gay rights, including the right to marry any other person you choose. Every individual has the right to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If being with a member of the same sex brings you happiness, you have that absolute right.
